Resilience

avocado seed

Avocado pit swaddled and tucked away.
Weeks later sending forth roots.
Too small to sustain your stem, I wait.
I am too long in remembering,
And tender shoots turn brown.

I reproach myself for this neglect,
Disappointment and opportunity wasted.
As you return to earth, I find the lesson.
Order more green avocados.
Learning leads to new growth.

V. Ferrier

Life and plants are teachers. While I have learned a great deal from gardening friends, especially those in Twitter, the greatest lessons have come from the experience of both success and failure. Looking forward to trying to grow an avocado plant again soon following the advice of The Empress of Dirt, including setting up reminders.
